Vishnu is a 5 year old cat that has been living with his owners, Zac and Natasha, for over four years. He is a very loyal and loving cat, that is super affectionate and playful. About three years ago, his right eye began to develop small brown spots in the iris. Zac and Natasha took him to see a Veterinary Opthamologist, and have been monitoring his eye ever since. They found out that Vishnu has Iris Melanoma, a fairly common condition in felines. The doctor told them that the melanoma was not advanced enough to take any action at the time, but explained that it was imperative to monitor the eye for changes. While many cats' eyes will stop progressing at a certain point, some will continue to progress and eventually form a tumor. So, various tests have been performed on Vishnu every six months to determine if the melanoma has been progressing, and it is now apparent that a tumor has developed. His iris is now almost entirely black, and his pupil will not fully contract with the light. This makes it difficult for him to see in very bright light, or to look out the window on sunny days. Although the tumor is not painful for him in any way, it must be removed before it begins spreading to the rest of his body. We hope that the surgery successfully removes the entire tumor, and we know that Vishnu will make a very handsome one-eyed cat!
